La ETSINF organiza la jornada ETSINF@TECH 2022 ligada a la graduación del curso 2021-2022. En este evento,  empresas importantes del sector de las TI presentan tecnologías y metodologías punteras que utilizan a la hora de desarrollar sus proyectos en TI.

La jornada se celebra el Miércoles 19 de octubre de 2022 en el  Salón de Actos de la  ETSINF 1H.

Las charlas se imparten por profesionales del sector con amplia experiencia. Las plazas son limitadas.

UNICC and the Columbia University School of Professional Studies (SPS) have launched a Think-a-Thon to bring students/alumni together to advance human welfare and confront two great challenges of our time: Gender Equality and Climate Change. Selected finalists will receive mentorship from UNICC subject matter experts to work on real-world solutions for the two challenges, have a chance to win cash prizes to advance their projects and the opportunity to present to UNICC delegates while working on a real-world solution to a global issue.

Participation Guidelines

Participants will have to form a group of 3-5 members, and at least one member per team will be required to be a Columbia SPS Student or Alumni. Then choose one of two challenge prompts provided (Gender Equality or Climate Change) and prepare their proposal using the Evaluation Criteria provided. Each team should submit their proposal through the form on the UN THINK-A-THON platform. Proposal submissions will be accepted till Friday, Sept 2 at 5:00 pm ET.

Judges will review the submissions beginning on Friday, September 2 at 5 pm ET through Friday, September 9th  at 5 pm ET and up to 10 teams will be selected to move to the next round/phase of the competition.

Please note: There will be an information session on Thursday, August 11 from 12:00 – 1:00 ET for students/alumni to learn how they can take part in the Think-a-Thon and how to team up. This Information Session is an opportunity to find and network with teammates from Columbia SPS and around the globe before the submission deadline on September 2nd. RSVP HERE!

Students/alumni who will participate will be able to:

1. Work on a real-world solution to a global issue with a mentor/ subject matter expert from the UNICC.
2. Network with a cross-functional team from the UNICC and learn about the organization

La empresa Maibornwolff, en colaboración con la ETSINF, organiza un workshop sobre Mobile Live-Hacking en sus oficinas en Valencia, Carrer de l’Historiador Diago, 2-4, (google maps). El evento se realiza entre las 11:00 – 16:00 del día 1 de julio. El workshop se desarrolla en inglés. La comida está incluida en el evento.

“The (Mobile) Live-Hacking Workshop is a special training unit that focuses on attack techniques known by penetration testers and so-called «red teams». Besides some more general hacking topics, we will dive into the hacking of Android and iOS apps. In contrast to typical lectures, you will be able to experience everything firsthand and in a secured environment. Therefore, please make sure to take your laptop along.

El próximo viernes 20 de mayo a las 8:30 en el aula 1E 2.3, Mario López de la empresa Mercadona Tech realiza la charla: Funciones del equipo de Data de Mercadona Tech. La charla se realiza dentro de la asignatura EDM del grado en Ciencia de Datos.

En la charla se presantará el equipo de Data de Mercadona Tech: por qué existe, cómo planeamos cumplir nuestro propósito (con las dificultades que tiene) y quiénes somos (roles de un equipo de Data). Hablaremos de distintas herramientas que utilizamos (Modern Data Stack) y nos centraremos en un caso práctico de predicción de demanda.

In times of endless cloud resources and abstraction on every level, to build a cloud platform for any usecase should be simple as it seems, right? Let’ say it is and it is not. Michael Abey has worked in IT for over 15 years in a variety of roles and projects and we’ll join him for a look at the challenges and highlights of such a platform. Over the last year he accompanied a BMW AI platform project to improve their ability to expand faster, respond more easily to change and increase their quality to deliver the same high level of excellence they are known for.

El próximo jueves 26 de mayo a las 12:30 en el salón de actos de la ETSINF, Jesús Lagos, experto en el uso de la ciencia de datos para deportes, imparte la charla: «Analítica avanzada en el fútbol»

Resumen: ¿Cómo ha aterrizado la análitica avanzada con las nuevas técnicas computacionales en el mundo del fútbol? Veremos los casos de uso donde se aplican diferentes técnicas, como a nivel táctico, scouting o marketing, con estadística descriptiva hasta modelización avanzada y técnicas de detección de objetos y sus usos en diferentes parcelas de un equipo de fútbol para extraer información de valor para el club. Para los futuros profesionales del dato en el fútbol como en cualquier sector es importante conocer la necesidad de tener un background técnico-informático para la gestión de la información, estadístico para su correcto tratamiento y visualización para una correcta comunicación.

Jesús Lagos Milla. Ingeniero de Montes por la UPV y Premio TFC de la ETSIAM por los estudios sobre Geomarketing en empresas agroalimentarias con más de 13 años dedicados al mundo del Business Intelligence en consultoras como Arvato o PwC y desde 2011 en Orange España.  Actualmente como Jefe de Proyectos en el área de Big Data de Orange en proyectos de Captación, Marketing Mix Modelling, Rentabilidad y Optimizadores.  Aplicando el día a día en su otra pasión, el fútbol.

with hands-on Docker & Kubernetes

We dive into the basics of containers including hands on exercises with docker. On top of that you learn about container orchestration using kubernetes in a hands on session.

Through a series of hands-on exercises we learn the basics of containers focused on Docker and extend this knowledge to orchestration with Kubernetes.

Goal:

• Understand basic concept of and reason behind containers
• Be able to dockerize simple application
• Understand basic concept of and reason behind container orchestration
• Know basic resource types
• Be able to deploy simple service in Kubernetes cluster

Recommended previous knowledge (not obligatory):

• Linux terminal
• vi/nano
• Preferably basic knowledge about application development or system administration
• Preferably basic knowledge of operating systems

Preparation:

• Most of the school will be held in a hands-on way in groups of 3-4 people.
• Every group will need a laptop with SSH installed in order to connect to our servers.
• If you are a Mac or Linux user, everything you need should be already installed on your machine.
• If you are a Windows user, we recommend installing the WSL as described here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-win10. If WSL is not installed, we can also help you establishing SSH connections using Putty.
